
Senior leaders, including William Ruto, back landmark mosque project as a hub for faith, education and community development
MANDERA, Kenya (Horn post) Aden Bare Duale on Friday officiated the grand opening of the Jamia Mosque in Takaba, Mandera County, in a ceremony that drew hundreds of residents, religious leaders and local officials.
The newly constructed mosque is expected to serve as a center for worship, religious education, dialogue and social support, reflecting broader efforts to promote community development in northern Kenya.
Speaking at the event, Duale emphasized the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence, urging residents to uphold the teachings of Prophet Muhammad on tolerance, compassion and social cohesion.
“This mosque stands not only as a place of worship, but as a symbol of unity and shared progress,” he said.
The project received support from key national figures, including William Ruto, whose contribution was acknowledged during the ceremony. Officials said the mosque represents a milestone in strengthening social infrastructure and fostering harmony in the region.
The event was attended by senior county and national leaders, including Mohammed Khalif, Ali Roba, Members of Parliament Adan Haji, Ibrahim Haro, and Ahmed Maalim, as well as former senators Mohammed Maalim and Billow Kerrow.
Community leaders and stakeholders described the mosque as a landmark project that underscores the role of collective effort in building a more cohesive and prosperous society.
