Hargeisa (Hornpost.com) The President of the Republic of Somaliland Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Cirro) today together with members of his Government held an important meeting at the Presidential Palace with the Acting Envoy of the United Nations Secretary (UN) in charge of Somaliland/Somalia affairs, Mr. James Swan who visited Somaliland.
The envoy of the Secretary of the United Nations praised the President of Somaliland for his success in the Presidential Competition held in Somaliland on 13.11.2024.
The envoy praised the Republic of Somaliland for the free election contest that took place in Somaliland and the civilized way in which the government was taken over ‘.
The UN envoy underlined that the United Nations agencies are ready to continue the important work of the United Nations in Somaliland. Also, the envoy asked the President about the plans of his government for the first hundred days.

The envoy of the Secretary of the United Nations greatly welcomed the calls for peace issued by the President of the Republic of Somaliland, especially to end the violence in the areas where there are conflicts through dialogue and peaceful means the envoy praised the President for appointing the National Peace Committee of the Republic of Somaliland.
The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi, on his part, thanked the UN Secretary General’s envoy for his mission trip to Somaliland.
The President acknowledged the large-scale traditional activities (in terms of humanitarian and development) carried out by the United Nations Organizations in Somaliland. The President told the Envoy that his Government is really prioritizing two issues:
1) Lasting peace,
2) Implementing multifaceted and practical change.
President Abdirahman Cirro told the envoy that on the day he took office, he officially called for an unconditional peace agreement, but the answer was that we should be attacked in different directions in Eastern Somaliland. The President said that these issues will not discourage his Government and that is why the National Peace Committee was established to:
- Enable an unconditional ceasefire,
- Facilitate the exchange of prisoners,
- Reopen closed roads that are important for social and business traffic
The President assured the envoy that the peace and stability in Somaliland for more than 30 years has contributed greatly to the Horn of Africa region.
Therefore, Somaliland demands that the United Nations help Somaliland to strengthen and empower the Somaliland Security Council of the Republic of Somaliland, so that we can respond or prevent the great threats in the Horn of Africa region.
Finally, the President of the Republic of Somaliland Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Cirro) said that his government is ready to work closely with the United Nations Organizations, other international organizations and donor governments to strengthen Somaliland in terms of peace and stability, the reform of the Republic of Somaliland National Institutions and Somaliland’s vision to achieve sustainable development, The meeting ended with success and consensus.
