ATHENS, Greece (Horn post) Somaliland has joined international security and strategic discussions at the Athens Defense Summit, marking another step in its growing diplomatic and geopolitical engagement on the global stage.
Somaliland Ambassador to Israel Mohamed Haji announced his arrival in Athens to participate in the high-level defense forum, stating that Somaliland’s presence reflects its increasing role in international strategic and security dialogue.
“Somaliland’s participation demonstrates its expanding contribution to global discussions on security and strategy,” Ambassador Mohamed Haji said in a statement released during the summit.
The Athens Defense Summit brings together government officials, diplomats, military leaders, and security experts from different countries to discuss regional security, defense cooperation, geopolitical developments, and emerging global threats.
Somaliland’s participation highlights its continued efforts to strengthen international partnerships and expand diplomatic visibility despite lacking formal international recognition.
In recent years, Somaliland has increasingly engaged in regional and international security conversations, particularly on issues related to maritime security, counterterrorism, stability in the Horn of Africa, and Red Sea geopolitics.
The summit participation also reflects Somaliland’s broader diplomatic outreach strategy aimed at building stronger relations with international partners in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
