HARGEISA, Somaliland (Horn post)— Hirsi Ali Haji Hassan, chairman of Somaliland’s ruling WADDANI party, on Sunday unveiled a comprehensive labor rights agenda during the launch of a new legal services initiative, underscoring the government’s focus on workers’ protections and access to justice.
The event, held in Hargeisa, marked the introduction of a platform designed to expand legal services nationwide, particularly for low-income communities and workers facing legal challenges.
Hirsi said the ruling party is committed to strengthening labor protections, improving working conditions, and ensuring equitable access to justice across Somaliland.
“We are ready to stand alongside workers and laborers to secure their rights while promoting and safeguarding justice,” he said.
Government Policy Direction
The announcement follows recent cooperation agreements between WADDANI and several labor organizations, signaling a coordinated effort to align government policy with workers’ interests.
Analysts say the move reflects a broader governance strategy to address labor rights, enhance social protection systems, and respond to growing public demand for economic fairness.
Expanding Legal Access
The newly launched legal services initiative is expected to provide legal aid, dispute resolution, and advocacy support, particularly targeting vulnerable groups who face barriers in accessing formal courts.
Strengthening access to justice is seen as a key pillar in improving institutional effectiveness and reducing inequality in Somaliland’s evolving legal system.
Focus on Social Justice and Reform
The emphasis on labor rights comes amid increasing national focus on social justice, economic inclusion, and governance reforms. Observers note that integrating legal aid with labor policy could improve enforcement of rights and build public trust in state institutions.
