NAIROBI, Kenya (Horn post) President William Samoei Ruto the President of the Republic of Kenya on Tuesday inspected education and housing projects in Kibra Constituency, Nairobi County, as part of ongoing government infrastructure and social development initiatives.
President Ruto officially opened newly constructed classrooms at Ayany Primary School, Raila Educational Centre, and Joseph Kangethe Primary School. The projects are aimed at expanding access to education, reducing classroom overcrowding, and supporting implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
At Raila Educational Centre, the President handed over 14 classrooms and a multipurpose hall, highlighting the government’s continued investment in learning infrastructure across urban informal settlements.
President Ruto later inspected progress at the Soweto Affordable Housing Project in Lang’ata, part of Kenya’s broader affordable housing program intended to improve living conditions and reduce informal settlement congestion.
Speaking after inaugurating new classrooms and inspecting ongoing works, Ruto said the Affordable Housing Program is central to Kenya’s national transformation agenda.
“The Affordable Housing program is a fulfilment of our national transformation agenda to change the lives of our citizens. The program provides decent and dignified homes,” Ruto said.
He added that the government is constructing nearly 250,000 housing units across 215 sites nationwide, with 100,000 units located in Nairobi alone.
“I inspected the ongoing construction of the 4,600-unit Soweto Affordable Housing Project in Lang’ata Constituency, Nairobi. Shortly, we will break ground for the construction of another 15,000 homes in Kibra,” he said.
Ruto also outlined broader urban development plans aimed at upgrading the capital city.
“We are transforming the face of Nairobi to match its status as Kenya’s capital city and the gateway to Eastern Africa,” he said.
He noted that the national government, in partnership with the Nairobi City County Government, is investing KSh80 billion in the construction of 260 kilometers of roads, installation of 40,000 streetlights, and strengthening waste management systems.
The President’s tour concluded with a public engagement at Undugu Grounds, where he addressed residents on development priorities and urban transformation efforts.
Security officials reported large crowds of residents turned out to receive the President during the visit, temporarily overwhelming security arrangements as he interacted with the public.
The Kibra visit forms part of Ruto’s wider agenda to accelerate education reforms and expand access to dignified housing in Nairobi and other urban centers.
