GARBO-DADAR, Somaliland (Horn post) — The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland HE Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi on Monday held talks with traditional elders and community leaders in Garbo-dadar District, focusing on efforts to resolve intercommunal tensions and strengthen peace in parts of western Somaliland.

The Vice President, who has been on a working visit across coastal areas of the Awdal and Salal regions, met with elders and influential figures in Garbo-dadar to discuss ways of de-escalating ongoing conflicts between communities in the area.

The meeting centered on promoting reconciliation, restoring trust, and advancing long-term stability in the region. Vice President Aw Abdi emphasized that peace is essential for development and social cohesion, stressing that sustainable solutions can only be achieved through dialogue, mutual compromise, and cooperation.

He urged community leaders to take an active role in calming tensions and supporting reconciliation efforts, saying their leadership is critical to ending the conflict and restoring harmony between neighboring communities.

Elders and community leaders from Garbo-dadar expressed their readiness to contribute to peacebuilding initiatives, pledging to intensify efforts aimed at stopping the violence and rebuilding trust among residents.

The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding and renewed commitment to work collectively for peace and unity across the affected areas of the Awdal and Salal regions in western Somaliland.

The Vice President was accompanied by the Minister of Interior and Security, Abdalle Mohamed Arab, Deputy Commander of the Somaliland Police Force Brig. Gen. Abdi Muse Abdillahi, and other regional officials.
