Somalia’s President Inaugurates Key Mogadishu Road Linking Dabka and Bakaaraha Intersections.

Mogadishu, Somalia (Horn post) — Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has officially inaugurated a newly constructed asphalt road linking the Dabka and Bakaaraha intersections in the capital Mogadishu, in a project funded through public tax revenues.

The road, implemented by the Banadir Regional Administration, is part of ongoing efforts to rebuild urban infrastructure and improve transport connectivity in the city.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, President Hassan Sheikh described the project as a symbol of Mogadishu’s recovery and progress, particularly in the areas of security, governance, and economic infrastructure.

“This road reflects the tangible development our capital is witnessing and demonstrates how public resources can be effectively reinvested to benefit citizens,” the president said, commending the Banadir administration for delivering what he called a legacy project funded by taxpayers.

The newly opened route is expected to ease traffic congestion and enhance access between key commercial areas, including the busy Bakara Market, one of the largest marketplaces in the country.

During the event, President Hassan Sheikh also reiterated his government’s commitment to advancing a democratic system based on universal suffrage, urging political stakeholders to prepare for “one person, one vote” elections.

“Our goal is to institutionalize politics and return power to the people. It is not sustainable for a small group to determine the future of millions of Somalis,” he said.

The president further called on Somali business leaders to invest in agriculture and industry to reduce reliance on imports and strengthen domestic production capacity.

Officials say the road project forms part of broader reconstruction initiatives aimed at revitalizing Mogadishu’s infrastructure and supporting long-term economic growth in Somalia’s capital.
