Somaliland Cabinet Reviews Security, Economy and Regional Developments in 57th Session.
Hargeisa (Horn post) The Council of Ministers of Somaliland has held its 57th session in Hargeisa, chaired by President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro and attended by Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, where key national issues including security, the economy, and regional developments were discussed.
Security Declared Stable Nationwide:
The Minister of Interior and National Security, Abdalle Mohamed Arab, told the Cabinet that the overall security situation across Somaliland remains stable, with no reported incidents of unrest.
He said security forces, including the police and other agencies, successfully maintained order before and during the recent Eid al-Fitr celebrations, allowing citizens to celebrate peacefully. The minister praised the preparedness and professionalism of the security services.
Economic Pressures Linked to Global Factors:
The state minister for Finance and Economic Development, Ismail Mawlid Abdillahi, briefed ministers on revenue collection and fiscal performance, noting that while the system remains stable, external pressures continue to affect the economy.
He highlighted that rising fuel and commodity prices, driven in part by ongoing tensions in the Middle East, are impacting Somaliland’s import-dependent economy. He urged diversification of trade partnerships and exploration of new markets to reduce reliance on the region.
The minister also proposed the creation of national reserves for essential goods such as food and fuel to improve economic resilience.
Peaceful Eid Celebrations Across Regions:
Cabinet ministers who traveled to various regions to mark Eid reported that celebrations took place in a calm and unified atmosphere across the country.
They said communities demonstrated strong cohesion and cooperation, while security agencies ensured a safe environment. Ministers also held meetings with local authorities, elders, and community groups, emphasizing the importance of unity and stability.
Seasonal Rains Bring Both Relief and Challenges:
The Minister of Agriculture Development, Mahmoud Ige Yusuf, said seasonal rains have begun in several regions, offering positive prospects for agriculture and livestock.
However, he warned that some areas have experienced flooding and damage to farmland. He urged the public to take precautions, especially in flood-prone and encouraged farmers to adopt water conservation practices to maximize production during the Gu rainy season.
Rising Prices Prompt Government Measures:
The Minister of Trade and Tourism, Abdirahman Hassan Noor, addressed the impact of global developments on local markets, particularly the increase in fuel and food prices.
He said the government has introduced measures including market monitoring, fuel price regulation, and engagement with business leaders to maintain stability.
The minister called on traders to act responsibly and avoid unjustified price hikes, stressing the need to protect consumers and maintain market balance.
Government Reaffirms Commitment to Stability and Growth:
The Cabinet reiterated Somaliland’s commitment to strengthening governance, maintaining security, and implementing policies aimed at economic stability and long-term development amid evolving regional and global challenges.
