Somaliland Welcomes US Congressional Bill to Expand Financial Access and Opportunities.

WASHINGTON (Horn post) The Government of Somaliland has welcomed a newly introduced bill in the United States Congress aimed at expanding financial access and economic opportunities for the region.

The proposed legislation was introduced by Congressman John Rose and is backed by fellow lawmakers Pat Harrigan and Andy Ogles. The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen economic and security cooperation between the United States and Somaliland.

Bashir Sheikh Omar Good, Somaliland’s representative to the United States, praised the introduction of the bill, describing it as a significant step toward improving Somaliland’s access to the global financial system. He noted that the legislation could play a key role in facilitating direct financial transactions with U.S. and international banks, including potential integration with global systems such as SWIFT.

Ambassador Good said the bill reflects sustained diplomatic efforts by the Somaliland government and its partners in Congress, culminating in its formal presentation to lawmakers. He emphasized that the initiative could help unlock new economic opportunities and enhance investor confidence in Somaliland.

If passed, the legislation is expected to support Somaliland’s ambitions to deepen international financial engagement and attract foreign investment, marking a potential shift in its economic relations with global markets.
