Somaliland Expresses Condolences to Ethiopia After Deadly Landslides in Gamo Zone.
HARGEISA — (Horn post) The Government of the Somaliland has expressed its condolences to the people and government of the Ethiopia following deadly landslides that struck communities in the Gamo Zone, causing loss of life and significant destruction.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Somaliland conveyed sympathy to the victims’ families and all those affected by the disaster, which was triggered by heavy seasonal rains that led to landslides and flooding in parts of southern Ethiopia.
“The Government of the Republic of Somaliland expresses its condolences to the people of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia following the deadly landslides in Gamo Zone. Our thoughts are with the victims’ families. Somaliland stands in solidarity with Ethiopia,” the statement said.
The landslides occurred after days of intense rainfall in the region, which caused soil instability and flooding in several communities. Local authorities and emergency teams have been conducting rescue and recovery operations in affected areas as residents cope with the aftermath of the disaster.
Officials in Somaliland noted the close historical, economic, and social ties between the two neighboring countries, emphasizing that the people of Somaliland share in the grief of Ethiopian communities during this difficult time.
The government also reaffirmed its solidarity with Ethiopia and expressed hope for the swift recovery of the affected communities as humanitarian and relief efforts continue in the region.
