Hargeisa (Horn Post) – Large crowds of Somaliland citizens have expressed strong appreciation and gratitude to the United Arab Emirates, chanting slogans in support of the UAE government and its global port operator, DP World, for its long-term investment in Somaliland.
Demonstrators highlighted that, during Somaliland’s 34-year struggle for international recognition, the UAE has been the only country to commit hundreds of millions of dollars in strategic investments, particularly in the development of the Berbera Port, which is regarded as a vital economic and geopolitical asset for Somaliland.
Protesters marched through central Hargeisa carrying the flags of the Republic of Somaliland and the United Arab Emirates, while illuminated messages and visual displays were projected in the city to publicly thank the UAE for its partnership and support.
Many participants and political observers believe the UAE could potentially become the second country, after Israel, to formally recognize the Republic of Somaliland, citing the depth of bilateral cooperation, mutual trust, and shared strategic interests.
