President Irro: Israel Responded to the Will of Somaliland’s People When Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt Went Unanswered.

Somaliland Leader Issues Strong Warning to Somalia Over Any Military Aggression.

Hargeisa (Horn post) Over the past two days, the President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), has held a series of high-level national consultative meetings with former Ministers of Interior and the senior leadership of Somaliland’s three national political parties—WADDANI, KULMIYE, and KAAH.

During these consultations, President Irro delivered firm and direct remarks addressed to Muslim-majority countries and African states that have opposed Somaliland’s recognition by Israel. He specifically named Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt among the countries he addressed, alongside members of the African Union.

Speaking candidly, the President disclosed diplomatic outreach he personally undertook prior to Israel’s recognition of Somaliland.

“The letter I wrote to the Prime Minister of Israel, I wrote similar letters to Saudi Arabia, the President of Egypt, and the President of Turkey. None of them responded to me. However, the will of my people was answered by the Government of Israel, and for that, we are grateful,” President Irro said.

the President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro) expressed disappointment at the reaction of Arab countries, noting the deep historical, religious, and social ties Somaliland shares with them.

“From our Arab brothers, we did not expect hostility. We expected a response and support for the Somaliland cause, given the deep relationships that exist between us,” he stated.

President Irro highlighted Somaliland’s longstanding historical connections with Egypt and Saudi Arabia to underscore what he described as the absence of any legitimate reason for their opposition.

“When the Suez Canal was closed, camels were sent from here to Egypt. There is no reason for Egypt to oppose Somaliland.

Saudi Arabia—people from Somaliland were among those who helped build the Kingdom and were among the first Somalis to arrive there. They are still there today. We still regard them as our brothers,” he said.

Addressing security concerns, the President issued a strong warning regarding Somalia, stating that any military aggression would be decisively repelled.

“If Somalia invades Somaliland, it will be defeated just as it was defeated before—this time even more severely,” he warned.

In a broader message to regional and international partners, the President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro) reiterated Somaliland’s call for support and recognition:

“I take this opportunity to speak to the countries that are our friends, our neighbors, our Arab brothers, Muslim nations, and non-Muslim countries alike—especially those within the African Union. Our people are closely connected; we share geography, history, religion, and common interests.”

the President Abdirahman (Irro) urged Arab and Islamic states not to allow political pressure or sentiment to obstruct recognition:

“You are better placed than anyone else to lead support for the Somaliland cause. If support has been delayed, I am specifically addressing Arab and Islamic countries today: you still have an opportunity. While safeguarding your sovereignty, do not allow emotion, sentimentality, or misleading rhetoric to blind you or prevent you from recognizing Somaliland as state”

Somaliland President Irro expressed confidence that international recognition of Somaliland is accelerating.

“Other countries are recognizing Somaliland. Somaliland will take its rightful seat in the international community and will become a member of the United Nations. Those who remained silent are now speaking out; those who were hiding have come into the open.”

the President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro) concluded with a call for unity at home and clarity abroad:

“Today, we clearly know who our enemies are and who our friends are. From this moment forward, we move ahead with full national unity.”

The President’s remarks come as Somaliland enters what officials describe as a new diplomatic phase, marked by heightened regional tension, intensified international engagement, and renewed calls for unity in defense of Somaliland’s sovereignty and statehood.
