Somaliland-Linked Federal Officials Reject Condemning Israel Recognition, Warn Mogadishu Against Escalatory Measures.

Hargeisa (Horn post) Senior political and military figures originating from Somaliland and currently holding key positions within Somalia’s federal institutions have refused to condemn Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, while simultaneously issuing strong warnings to the Federal Government of Somalia over its handling of relations with Hargeisa.

The officials, led by Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Bashe Ahmed Yusuf, accused the administration in Mogadishu of abandoning commitments reached during previous rounds of dialogue between Somaliland and Somalia.

They said that atrocities committed against Somaliland’s civilian population remain unacknowledged, and that promised rights and reparations have yet to be delivered, despite repeated assurances made during earlier negotiations.

Amid growing political tensions, the Somaliland-linked officials declined calls from federal leaders to denounce Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, arguing that the issue cannot be resolved through condemnation, political pressure, or hostile rhetoric. Instead, they emphasized the need for a political and dialogue-based approach grounded in existing realities.

The group also warned Mogadishu against taking steps that could harm Somaliland’s economy or civilian livelihoods and cautioned against any use of force against the population, stressing that such actions would further destabilize the region.

Additionally, they urged Somali leaders to avoid framing the Somaliland issue along clan lines and called for an end to what they described as hostile and inflammatory language directed at Somaliland by senior federal officials.

The statements highlight a deepening rift within Somalia’s federal leadership, exposing widening divisions over how to address Somaliland amid recent developments related to its international recognition. Observers say the stance taken by Somaliland-linked officials underscores a growing acknowledgment within federal institutions of Somaliland’s long-standing political and administrative reality.
