Hargeisa (Horn post) Somaliland Foreign Minister Abdirahman Dahir Adam has said that the United Nations Security Council has not condemned Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, noting that member states merely expressed their individual political positions.
Speaking to Nicole Zedeck on The Rundown program on i24NEWS, the Foreign Minister stated that several countries within the Security Council fully understand that Israel’s decision is lawful and justified.
“We respect the United Nations and its institutions, but it is important to be precise. Recognition does not violate international law. Somaliland is not a secessionist entity; it is a restoration of sovereignty that existed prior to an unratified union,” Minister Abdirahman Dahir said.
“The United Nations Security Council did not condemn Israel’s recognition of Somaliland. The council was divided. There are countries sitting on the council that know the Somaliland case is clear and that Israel is correct and has every right to recognize Somaliland. However, due to their own political interests or pressure from other states, they deliberately choose to deny this reality.”
