Hargeisa (Hornpost) — Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Cirro) on Monday welcomed the United Kingdom’s Ambassador, Charles King, and a high-level delegation at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa, as part of an official visit aimed at boosting ties between the two sides.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the discussions focused on deepening cooperation in security, development, and long-standing diplomatic relations.
President Cirro praised the historic and trusted partnership between Somaliland and the UK, expressing appreciation for Britain’s continued support in security assistance and infrastructure development. He noted that the bilateral relationship is rooted in “mutual respect, shared interests, and decades of constructive engagement.”
The President reaffirmed that his administration is committed to further strengthening collaboration with the UK, describing Britain as a “close and reliable partner” in efforts to advance stability, economic progress, and social development in Somaliland.
For his part, Ambassador Charles King underscored the United Kingdom’s strong appreciation for its long-standing ties with Somaliland. He commended Somaliland’s record on peace, stability, democratic governance, and credible electoral processes, noting that these achievements continue to distinguish Somaliland in the region.
The meeting concluded with both sides reiterating their commitment to enhancing cooperation across key sectors in support of peace, security, and sustainable development in the Horn of Africa.
