Turkey Sends Firefighting Aircraft as Iran Appeals for Support in Chalus Blaze.
Tehran (Hornpost) — Iran has issued an urgent international appeal for assistance as wildfires continue to spread through the elite Chalus forest region, affecting areas designated by UNESCO as historic heritage sites.
Authorities say the blaze, which reignited after briefly being contained last week, is now expanding across parts of the Hyrcanian Forests — an ancient woodland stretching nearly 1,000 kilometers along the Caspian Sea coastline.
A specialized firefighting aircraft from Turkey has reportedly arrived in Marzanabad to support ongoing operations.
Russia, Belarus, and Azerbaijan have also expressed readiness to provide aid as Iran struggles to control the flames.
The wildfire first broke out 20 days ago, and despite extensive efforts by firefighters and emergency teams, shifting winds and difficult terrain have fueled its resurgence.
Iranian officials say international cooperation is now essential to protect the endangered forest ecosystem and prevent further damage to UNESCO-listed heritage zones.
