Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, has paid an official visit to Jigjiga, the capital city of the Somali Regional State.
Upon his arrival at Garad Wiil Waal International Airport, the Prime Minister and his high-level delegation were warmly received by the President of the Somali Regional State, Mr. Mustafe Mohummed Omar, along with senior regional officials, traditional elders, and large crowds representing different sections of the community.
The welcoming ceremony at the airport reflected the strong ties between the federal government and the Somali region, with cultural performances and displays of local hospitality highlighting the significance of the visit.
Prime Minister Abiy’s delegation includes key federal ministers and senior government officials. The visit is expected to focus on strengthening federal–regional relations, reviewing development programs in the Somali region, and engaging with community leaders on issues of peace, security, and economic growth.
The Somali Regional State, with Jigjiga as its administrative center, is one of Ethiopia’s most strategically important regions due to its geographic location, cultural diversity, and growing role in cross-border trade.
This visit marks yet another step in Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s outreach to regional states, underlining the federal government’s commitment to inclusive development and national unity.
