Somaliland President Sends Strong Message to Djibouti; Invites President Gouleh to Be the First to Visit Amid Talks of Somaliland Recognition

 

Hargeisa (Hornpost) The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), today held an important meeting at the Presidential Palace with a delegation from the Republic of Djibouti. The delegation was led by the Minister of Commerce and Tourism of Djibouti, H.E. Mohamed Warsame Dirie.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the two brotherly nations, particularly in the areas of trade, tourism, the movement of people, and development projects that benefit both countries.

President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro) Somaliland President Sends Strong Message to President of Djibouti, and Hopes that President Ismail Omer Gouleh to be the First to Visit Somaliland, Amid Talks of Somaliland Recognition He stated “Insha’Allah, the leaders of the region want to foster friendship, with Djibouti taking the lead. I hope that President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh will become the first president to visit Somaliland, God willing. Recently, many officials have visited Somaliland.”

President Cirro welcomed the Djiboutian delegation visiting Somaliland and reflected on how Somalilanders had historically demonstrated in support of Djibouti’s independence, recalling his own experiences as a student. He said:

“The delegation from our brotherly country Djibouti, led by the Minister of Commerce, is warmly welcomed. I also thank the President who sent my brother Ismaïl Omar Guelleh. Back in primary school, we used to demonstrate for Djibouti’s independence, supported by Mahmoud Xarbi when we were young. Today, there is no difference between the people of Somaliland and the people of Djibouti.”

Finally, President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro) announced that the construction of the paved road connecting the Djibouti-Somaliland border will begin next month. He said:

“The road linking Lowyacado and Boorama will begin in September, Insha’Allah. I expect that people from Djibouti will visit on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or during their weekend.”

For his part, Djibouti’s Minister of Commerce and Tourism, H.E. Mohamed Warsame Dirie, stated that the government and people of Djibouti are committed to further strengthening the brotherly relationship, cooperation, and shared interests of the two countries, especially in trade, tourism, and the movement of people.
