Hargeisa (Hornpost) Somaliland National Drought Relief Committee of the Republic of Somaliland held its first official meeting yesterday.
The meeting was aimed at establishing the direction and operational framework of the country’s drought relief efforts. This important meeting was chaired by the Vice President of Somaliland, Mr. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, who is also the Chairman of the National Drought Relief Committee – a role he was appointed to two days ago by the President of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro.
The Vice President stated that this meeting marks the official starting point of fulfilling the national responsibility assigned to the committee, which includes coordinating, preparing, and delivering emergency aid such as clean water, food, medicine, and other humanitarian services to address the urgent needs caused by the ongoing drought across the country.

Finalizing the structure of the National Drought Relief Committee
Establishing regional and district-level drought relief committees across all regions of the country
Monitoring daily reports on the drought situation nationwide
Forming technical subcommittees to support the operations of the National Committee
Designing a system for fundraising and managing donations, especially from businesspeople, the diaspora, and the general public of Somaliland
Regularizing daily meetings of the Committee to manage the broad scope of the drought relief operations
