ABU DHABI (Horn Post) — Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, held talks with Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation and reviewing regional developments.
According to the Emirates News Agency, the discussions took place during a meeting between the two leaders as Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed paid a working visit to the UAE.
The talks explored ways to expand cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the economic, trade, and development sectors. Both sides also discussed opportunities to deepen ties in a manner that supports shared priorities and mutual interests while promoting prosperity for their people.
The meeting also addressed recent developments in the Middle East amid escalating military tensions and their potential implications for regional and global security and stability.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed condemned what he described as Iranian attacks targeting the UAE and other countries in the region, saying such actions violate state sovereignty and international law. He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s solidarity with the UAE and its support for measures taken to protect the country’s security, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens.
President Mohamed bin Zayed expressed appreciation for Ethiopia’s supportive position.
He also extended his condolences to the Ethiopian government and people following the recent floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in southern Ethiopia, expressing the UAE’s solidarity with Ethiopia during this difficult time.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of de-escalation and called for dialogue and diplomatic engagement to resolve regional issues, stressing that such efforts are essential to preventing further tensions and maintaining security and stability in the region.
