Garowe(Hornpost) in a press statement issued by the Puntland administration, they elaborated on the recent conflict, accusing the government led by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of being behind efforts to establish a disputed administration aimed at expanding federal control into the Lasa’anod district.
Press release: Puntland condemnation of Somalia
“We strongly condemn the Federal Government, which in recent days has been stirring up conflict, inciting communities, and destabilizing the peaceful regions of Puntland. We also unequivocally condemn the XSM administration for organizing and deploying armed militias this afternoon, which sparked violent clashes in Dhahar District, Haylaan Region, resulting in the tragic loss of life.
This heinous act is a blatant attempt to undermine Puntland’s legitimate struggle against international terrorism, namely ISIS and AlShabaab, in the Calmidhkaad and Calmadow mountains. It is an act for which the Federal Government must be held accountable.
It is deeply regrettable that the HSM administration—having failed in all its mandated responsibilities—has now turned to roam the peaceful regions of Puntland with weapons in hand, using international aid intended for Somalia to sow the seeds of disunity and destruction.
We express our condolences for the loss of life and property resulting from today’s fighting and call on the people of Puntland to strengthen their peace and unity.”
