Borama (Horn Post) The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, who is currently on a working visit to Borama, on Tuesday held a consultative and briefing meeting with the traditional leaders of Awdal Region.

The meeting focused extensively on key security and stability issues, particularly efforts to safeguard peace and public order in Borama city. Discussions underscored the importance of close cooperation between the government and traditional authorities in maintaining long-term stability in the region.

Opening the meeting, Awdal Regional Governor Abdirashid Hassan Mataan welcomed the Vice President and praised the role played by traditional leaders in de-escalating tensions and restoring calm during recent demonstrations in Borama.

The Vice President noted that their intervention was instrumental in preserving security and social cohesion.

Addressing the gathering, Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi reaffirmed the Somaliland government’s commitment to dialogue, inclusive governance, and development in Awdal Region. He stated that the purpose of the meeting was to engage in frank consultations on recent developments and to strengthen mutual understanding.

“I extend my sincere appreciation to the traditional leaders of Awdal for the heavy responsibility you carry on behalf of your communities,” the Vice President said. “This meeting is intended to be an open consultation on emerging issues. As a government, we remain ready to always engage with the people who entrusted us with leadership.”

He stressed that collective responsibility is essential to maintaining peace in Borama, adding that any individuals or groups threatening security would be dealt with firmly.

The Vice President also assured the elders that the government is prepared to address existing grievances and concerns, while advancing development projects across the region.

Several traditional leaders who spoke during the meeting, in turn, pledged their full cooperation with the Somaliland government, particularly on matters related to security, stability, and social harmony in Awdal Region.

The meeting forms part of the Vice President’s broader outreach efforts aimed at reinforcing peace, strengthening governance, and consolidating Somaliland’s stability through direct engagement with local leadership.
