Somaliland President Warns of Growing Hostility, Calls for Unity and Heightened Security

Recognition Momentum Shows 100% Unity Among Somaliland People – President Irro

Hargeisa (Horn Post) – The 48th session of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland was held on Tuesday at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa, chaired by President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), and attended by Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi.

During the session, President Cirro delivered a strong message to the Somaliland public, warning that the country is facing increasing hostility from multiple actors and emphasizing the urgent need to safeguard national security through vigilance, unity, and collective responsibility.

The President stated that Somaliland has recently witnessed a clear rise in adversaries openly expressing hostility toward the country and its people.

While reaffirming that Somaliland does not harbor enmity toward any nation or group, he stressed the importance of recognizing and distinguishing between friends and adversaries.

“Today, it has become evident that Somaliland has many individuals and governments that have shown hostility toward Somaliland and its people. We do not hold hostility toward anyone, but those who display enmity toward us must be recognized as such, while those who stand with us will remain our friends,” President Cirro said.

President of the Republic of Somaliland HE Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro  further underscored the need for heightened security awareness across society, calling on citizens to play an active role in protecting peace and stability.

“I propose that we safeguard our security and that every citizen becomes a police officer, an intelligence source, a peacekeeper, and a guardian of our nation,” the President added.

President Cirro also called on the Somaliland public to maintain unity and solidarity, noting that recent developments related to Somaliland’s recognition efforts have demonstrated unprecedented national cohesion.

“I urge my people to remain united. The issue of recognition has clearly shown that the people of Somaliland are 100 percent united,” he said.

The President’s remarks come at a time when Somaliland is experiencing heightened international attention, with officials emphasizing that internal unity and security remain the foundation of the country’s political resilience and diplomatic aspirations.
