Hargeisa (Horn post) The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), on Thursday evening convened an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers to deliberate on the historic development following Israel’s decision to grant full recognition to Somaliland.
The emergency session, attended by Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw-Abdi, was specifically called to assess the implications of the new diplomatic milestone and to chart a national response to the opportunities and responsibilities arising from international recognition.
According to the presidency, the cabinet meeting focused on evaluating the new historical phase entered by the country, formulating a national strategy on security, maximizing the opportunities linked to recognition, strengthening state institutions, accelerating diplomatic engagement, and exploring potential economic benefits resulting from Somaliland’s recognition by members of the international community.
President Cirro emphasized to the Council of Ministers that the recognition represents a national responsibility that must be approached with unity, cohesion, and collective action. He urged the government to act in a coordinated manner to safeguard national interests and to fulfill the aspirations of the people of Somaliland.
The President further instructed cabinet members to actively engage with the public and counter misinformation that could undermine or distort the recognition process, stressing the importance of transparency and public awareness during this critical period.
Members of the Council of Ministers collectively commended President Cirro for his leadership and strategic efforts, which they said played a key role in achieving Somaliland’s recognition. The ministers pledged full cooperation with the President to ensure that the historic opportunity translates into tangible political, economic, and security gains.
The meeting concluded with a unified consensus and joint resolutions aimed at transforming Somaliland’s recognition into a practical opportunity to strengthen peace, democratic governance, sustainable development, and Somaliland’s role in the Horn of Africa and the wider international community.
