Hargeisa, Somaliland (Horn post) — Major celebrations took place today at Hargeisa Stadium as hundreds of citizens gathered to mark the historic recognition of the Republic of Somaliland by the State of Israel. The stadium was adorned with the national flags of both Somaliland and Israel, and large portraits of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were prominently displayed.

Top government officials joined the public in the festivities, urging unity and emphasizing the importance of safeguarding Somaliland’s sovereignty. The event showcased broad public support for the milestone and highlighted Somaliland’s growing international recognition.

Government Leaders Address the Public

Hargeisa Mayor, Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge, addressed the crowd, underscoring the significance of Israel’s recognition for Somaliland’s political and diplomatic advancement. He emphasized that the milestone represents both national pride and international legitimacy.

Somaliland’s Minister of Interior Affairs, Mr. Abdalle Sandhere, expressed gratitude to Israel, calling it “one of the world’s most prominent and influential states.” He stressed that Somaliland’s recognition is not intended as a threat to any country, reaffirming a commitment to peaceful coexistence with neighboring states.

“The government that has recognized us, Israel, is among the most distinguished and powerful nations globally, and for that, we are deeply thankful. Somaliland’s recognition is not borne of hostility toward any party. With our neighbors, we are committed to coexisting with brotherhood, mutual respect, and cooperation. Anyone who seeks to provoke animosity against us will gain nothing from doing so,” Minister Sandhere said.

The Minister of Aviation and Airports, Mr. Fu’ad Ahmed Nuh, called on citizens to remain vigilant against any threats to Somaliland’s sovereignty, describing the recognition as long-awaited.

“The enemies of Somaliland are diverse and numerous—some are even among us. Be cautious of anyone who claims that Somaliland’s recognition is meaningless. Confront hostile entities and report them to security agencies. This nation is determined to achieve full statehood,” he said.

The Governor of the Marodi Jeh region urged the people to unite in support of their country’s interests, emphasizing solidarity as a national priority.

Minister of the Presidency, Mr. Khadar Hussein Abdi, addressed the international community, clarifying that Israel’s recognition is not meant to create discord or provoke any party, including Arab nations.

“We assure our people and the world that Israel’s recognition does not foster division and poses no threat to Arab nations,” Minister Abdi said.

Officials emphasized that Somaliland’s recognition enhances diplomatic relations, fosters economic cooperation, and reinforces the nation’s pursuit of full international statehood, while reaffirming its commitment to peace, stability, and respect for international norms.

The Hargeisa Stadium celebrations reflected both public enthusiasm and government affirmation that Somaliland’s recognition by Israel marks a historic step in the country’s ongoing journey toward broader global recognition.
