Mogadishu (Hornpost) – Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Wednesday joined diplomats, officials, and civil society leaders at the British Embassy in Mogadishu for a celebration marking the birthday of His Majesty King Charles III.
The annual event highlighted the growing partnership between Somalia and the United Kingdom, bringing together Somali and British guests for an evening of culture, connection, and diplomatic engagement.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Hamza reaffirmed Somalia’s strong ties with the UK, praising the country’s longstanding support in education, health, economic reform, and security.
British Ambassador Charles King, hosting his first King’s Birthday Party in Somalia, used the occasion to spotlight the people-to-people links shaping the modern relationship.
“I couldn’t think of a better way to mark my first King’s Birthday here than with Somali changemakers—young scholars, officials, entrepreneurs and innovators shaping the Somalia of tomorrow,” Ambassador King said.
“The UK is proud to stand with Somalia as a steadfast partner. Our partnership is built on trust, respect and shared ambition.”
This year’s celebration carried the theme of a traditional British country fair, featuring classic UK refreshments—including fish and chips—alongside Somali dance performances and a London Black Cab photo booth.
The blend of British and Somali traditions underscored the deepening cultural and diplomatic ties between the two nations as they continue to expand cooperation across key sectors.
