Somalia President Attends National Teachers’ Day Celebration in Mogadishu urging to recruitment of 10,000 teachers nationwide.

 

Mogadishu (Hornpost) — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia delivered a speech at the National Teachers’ Day celebration on 21 November, held at Mogadishu Stadium. The event was organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education.

In his address, the President emphasized the critical role of Somali teachers in advancing education and nurturing generations equipped to shape the country’s future. He highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to complete the recruitment of 10,000 teachers nationwide, noting that 6,000 have already been employed and are active across various educational institutions. The remaining positions are expected to be filled soon, with appropriate training provided.

“Teachers and soldiers are among the most valuable members of our society,” the President said. “It is our duty to honor and support teachers, who form the backbone of our social progress.”

President Mohamud also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening teachers’ professional skills, providing training, and promoting their welfare to ensure Somali students receive quality education aligned with international standards. He called on youth to recognize their potential as the current and future leaders of the nation.

The celebration was attended by Minister of Education, Culture, and Higher Education Farah Sheikh Abdulqadir, government officials, representatives of educational institutions, teachers, and students. The program included performances and presentations highlighting the contributions of teachers to Somali society.

The President concluded the ceremony by awarding honorary medals to distinguished educators, praising their resilience and dedication during periods of national hardship, and reaffirming the government’s prioritization of education and teacher development.
