Somalia PM Attends Early Qatar National Day Celebration, Underscores Deepening Bilateral Ties

Mogadishu, (Hornost) Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, on Monday participated in a ceremony held in Mogadishu to commemorate the National Day of the State of Qatar — an event marked ahead of its official annual date of 18 December.

The ceremony, organized by the Qatari Embassy, highlighted the historical significance of Qatar’s unification in 1878, a milestone officially designated as National Day on 21 June 2007. The event honored the legacy of Qatar’s founding leader and the nation-building journey that shaped its modern statehood.

Prime Minister Hamza conveyed warm congratulations to the leadership and people of Qatar, praising the “longstanding friendship and unwavering support” that Qatar continues to extend to Somalia in areas including development, infrastructure, humanitarian relief, and security cooperation.

He noted that the relationship between the two nations stands on pillars of brotherhood, mutual respect, and shared regional interests. The Prime Minister added that the partnership has grown stronger in recent years, reflecting commitments in diplomacy, trade, investment, and community development.

“The bonds between Somalia and Qatar are founded on trust and a shared vision for prosperity,” PM Hamza said, emphasizing that Somalia values Qatar’s contributions to national recovery and economic growth.

Diplomatic representatives, government officials, community leaders, and members of the international community attended the ceremony, which featured cultural presentations symbolizing the strong ties between the two nations. Officials from both sides reaffirmed their intention to deepen cooperation and expand collaborative projects in the coming years.
