London (Hornpost) — Somalia government delegation led by the Minister of Ports and Marine Transport, Cabdulqaadir Mohamed Nur, is participating in the 34th session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly in London, where Somalia formally advanced its integration into key maritime governance frameworks.
Somalia Submits Accession Documents to IMSO Convention:
During a bilateral sideline meeting, Minister Cabdulqaadir handed over Somalia’s official instruments of accession to the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) Convention to IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez.
The move marks a significant step in Somalia’s efforts to strengthen maritime security, improve safety at sea, and enhance cooperation with global maritime institutions.
Talks Focus on Securing Somali Waters and Modernizing Maritime Institutions:
The meeting, attended by Mogadishu Port Authority Director-General Mohamed Ali Nur (Ameriko) and Somalia’s Ambassador to the UK, Cabdulqaadir Abdi Hashi, reviewed how the new agreement can support the Federal Government’s push to modernize maritime agencies and enforce coastal protection laws.
Officials emphasized that joining the IMSO framework will help Somalia expand reliable maritime communications, bolster emergency response capacity, and reinforce international collaboration against threats facing Somali waters.

The Somali delegation is taking part in high-level discussions alongside member states on global maritime safety, environmental protection, and shipping governance.
