Erigavo (Horn Post) – President of Somaliland Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro) and a delegation accompanying him arrived today in Erigavo, the capital of Sanag Region, to take part in the closing session of the Sanag Peace Conference.
The visit marks a significant step in efforts to strengthen peace and reconciliation among the communities of the region, following clashes that erupted last year between clans residing in the area.
Among those who travelled with the President was Ugas Abdirashid Ugas Doodi, the Supreme Traditional Leader of the Salal and Awdal regions, one of Somaliland’s most senior elders. Traditional leaders from across the country were also present in Erigavo to attend the event and show their support for the reconciliation process.
The peace conference, which has brought together elders, community leaders, and government representatives, aims to promote dialogue, social harmony, and lasting stability in the Sanag region — an area often seen as key to Somaliland’s internal unity.
Upon arrival, President Cirro emphasized the value of peace and coexistence, saying:
“Peace is the foundation of our nation’s progress. Our people have chosen dialogue over division, and this conference is a testament to that commitment.”
The event is expected to conclude with the signing of a local peace agreement and joint pledges from community representatives to uphold stability across the region.
