WASHINGTON (Horn Post) — The United States Department of Defense is expected to deploy additional American military forces to the Middle East as regional tensions continue to rise, according to U.S. officials cited by international media reports.
Two U.S. officials told BBC News and CBS News that the Pentagon is preparing to send elements of the USS America Amphibious Ready Group along with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit to the region.
The potential deployment follows earlier reporting by The Wall Street Journal which revealed plans under consideration by U.S. defense officials to reinforce American military presence in the strategically important Middle East.
A typical amphibious ready group centered around the USS America normally includes several warships and supports an expeditionary force of approximately 5,000 U.S. Marines and sailors. These units are designed to conduct rapid-response missions, humanitarian operations, and combat deployments when required.
The move comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions across the Middle East, prompting Washington to review its military posture in the region to ensure the protection of U.S. interests, personnel, and allied partners.
U.S. defense officials have not yet confirmed the exact timeline for the deployment, but the additional forces would significantly enhance the operational capabilities of American troops already stationed in the region.
The United States maintains a substantial military presence across several Middle Eastern countries, including bases and naval assets that support regional security operations and maritime protection efforts.
