Borama (Hornpost) Daily life in Borama, the capital of Somaliland’s Awdal region, has returned to normal on Monday following several days of violent unrest that left casualties and disrupted public order.
For the past few days, the city had experienced heightened tensions, which led to the closure of roads, suspension of schooling, and the shutdown of many businesses. Residents had stayed indoors as security forces worked to restore calm.
On Monday morning, however, Borama showed clear signs of recovery. Roads reopened to traffic, shops and markets resumed operations, and schools welcomed back students. Public transportation also returned to service, while the city’s main commercial areas saw increased movement of people and goods.
Local authorities say stability has largely been restored, and they are urging residents to resume their normal activities while remaining calm and cooperative. Community elders and civic leaders have also called for restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation.
The return to normal life has been widely welcomed by residents, many of whom expressed relief that the tensions appear to have subsided. Despite the renewed calm, authorities are expected to continue monitoring the situation to ensure long-term stability.
