Kenyan President Launches 377-Unit Masalani Affordable Housing Project in Garissa county

Garissa (Hornpost) President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. William Samoei Ruto, on Saturday launched the construction of the 377-unit Masalani Affordable Housing Project in Ijara Constituency, Garissa County — a key milestone in the government’s nationwide affordable housing agenda.

The President was accompanied by the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Barre Duale, who is a native of the Somali-inhabited northern region, as well as Councilor Yussuf Hassan of Eastleigh, Nairobi.

The Masalani housing development forms part of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s broader strategy to expand access to decent, affordable homes while creating thousands of jobs across the country. President Ruto noted that the initiative is central to fostering a secure, stable, and inclusive socio-economic environment.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, President Ruto stated:

“We are building 230,000 affordable homes across the country to give Kenyans access to decent housing while supporting job creation and inclusive urban growth.”

He further emphasized the economic benefits of the project for the local community in Garissa:

“The programme is also strengthening local economies by reserving parts of the work, including steel doors and windows, for Jua Kali artisans so that the economic gains stay within the community.”

The Masalani project — consisting of 377 residential units — is expected to significantly improve urban development in Ijara Constituency and contribute to the region’s long-term economic uplift.

The President summarized the initiative as: “Launching the construction of the 377-unit Masalani Affordable Housing Project in Ijara Constituency, Garissa County.”

The local people welcomed the President with joy and praised his achievements and how he cares for the community’s development.
