Hargeisa, (Hornpost) October 7, 2025 – A high-level conference focused on accelerating the use and development of the Berbera Port and Trade Corridor was held today in Hargeisa.
The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Trade and Tourism of the Republic of Somaliland, the UK Office in Somaliland, and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regional trade connectivity and maximize the benefits of the Berbera Port.
The conference was officially held by the Minister of Trade and Tourism, Hon. Abdirahman Hassan Nuur, the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Abdillahi Hassan Aadan, and Mr. Chris Pycroft, FCDO Development Director.
All three underscored the importance of collaboration and implementation of plans to enhance the utilization and competitiveness of the Berbera Port and its trade corridor.
Senior representatives from several key government institutions attended the event, including:
Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ministry of Planning and National Development, Office of the Presidency, Ministry of Transport and Road Development, National Insurance Agency, Somaliland Ports Authority. During the discussions, participants analyzed the logistical and technical challenges hindering the full utilization of the Berbera Port and Corridor. They also explored strategies to strengthen trade flows and optimize the corridor’s regional potential.
The Ministry of Trade and Tourism and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development jointly presented a detailed report titled “Past and Present Status of Trade and Berbera Corridor Utilization”, outlining historical progress, current achievements, and existing obstacles.
The conference concluded with a shared commitment to accelerating the implementation of development plans related to the Berbera Port and Corridor, aiming to transform it into a competitive regional trade hub.
The Ministry of Trade and Tourism extended appreciation to all participating institutions and stakeholders, reaffirming its commitment to continue promoting economic growth and trade expansion in Somaliland.
