An earthquake in Myanmar killed 1600 people on the second day

Mandalay (Hornpost.com/net) the death toll from the earthquake that hit Myanmar has reached more than 1,600 people.

It has been almost two days since the earthquake that hit near Myanmar’s second largest city Mandalay, which caused widespread destruction and more than 1,600 deaths.

The United Nations says there is a severe lack of medicine that makes dealing with natural disasters more difficult.

Search and rescue teams continue to investigate the wreckage of the collapsed buildings. In Mandalay on Saturday, a woman was pulled alive from under the rubble after being trapped for 30 hours.

The head of Myanmar’s WFP World Food Agency, Michael Dunford, told the BBC that the humanitarian agency expects to carry out its first food distribution in the country’s capital, Naypyidaw, this afternoon.

“This is a disaster, a large-scale disaster, in a country that is already struggling with various humanitarian needs,” he said while talking about the earthquake and its aftermath – noting the complexity of the issues that make it difficult to provide effective aid.
