Adiss Ababa (Hornpost) Ethiopia’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye on Tuesday chaired a comprehensive preparatory meeting with the National Organizing Committee tasked with coordinating the 39th African Union (AU) Summit and the Africa–Italy Summit, both scheduled to be held in mid-February.
The meeting reviewed the overall state of readiness for the two high-level events, with a particular focus on logistical coordination, hospitality services, protocol arrangements, and security planning. Officials discussed measures to ensure the smooth reception and accommodation of heads of state and government, senior officials, and international delegations expected to attend the summits.
Security preparedness featured prominently in the discussions, with participants emphasizing the need for close coordination among relevant national institutions to guarantee the safety of delegates and ensure uninterrupted proceedings. The committee assessed existing security frameworks and identified areas requiring reinforcement ahead of the conferences.
Ambassador Berhanu stressed that the successful hosting of both summits is of strategic importance for Ethiopia’s diplomatic standing and its role within continental and international forums. He urged all committee members to accelerate implementation of agreed action plans within their respective institutions, noting that effective inter-agency cooperation will be critical to delivering well-organized and secure events.
Participants concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to intensifying preparations and maintaining regular coordination as Ethiopia moves into the final phase of planning for the two major summits.
