The decision, endorsed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, confirms the nomination of Michael Lotem as Israel’s inaugural ambassador to Somaliland, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reported by Bloomberg.
In a separate statement, Israel’s Foreign Ministry congratulated Lotem on his appointment, describing it as “a meaningful step in strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Israel and Somaliland.” The ministry expressed confidence in its ability to deepen bilateral ties.
The move underscores Israel’s expanding diplomatic outreach in Africa and signals growing engagement with Somaliland, which has been seeking broader international recognition.
