WASHINGTON — (Horn post) The United States spent an estimated $11.3 billion during the first week of the conflict involving Iran, according to a report by CBS News, citing U.S. military officials who briefed members of United States Congress.
The report, published by CBS News — a partner of BBC — said American military officials informed lawmakers that the figure represents the approximate operational cost incurred during the first week of the war.
However, the network noted that the $11.3 billion estimate is considered a minimum figure, as it does not include the extensive costs associated with preparing and deploying military forces ahead of the first strike, which reportedly began on February 28.
Costs Expected to Rise
U.S. lawmakers indicated that the total financial cost of the operation is likely to increase significantly as the conflict continues.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Democratic Senator Chris Coons said the overall expenses of the military campaign are expected to exceed the initial estimate.
“I expect the total cost of the operation will be higher than this figure,” Coons said.
Growing Financial Burden of Military Operations
The disclosure highlights the significant financial burden associated with large-scale military operations. Defense analysts say the cost includes expenses related to airstrikes, missile defense systems, logistics, troop deployment, and support operations across the region.
The conflict has already raised concerns among lawmakers in Washington about the long-term financial and strategic implications of continued military engagement in the region.
