US Sets June Target to End Russia–Ukraine War as Fighting Intensifies.

Horn Post | International News.

KYIV – (Horn post) The United States has set a tentative timeline for ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, even as the conflict continues to expand on the ground, according to statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky said Washington wants the war to conclude by June and has invited both Ukraine and Russia to participate in talks scheduled to take place in the United States next week.

“The United States has, for the first time, proposed that the Ukrainian and Russian negotiating teams meet in the United States, possibly in Miami, within a week. We have confirmed our participation,” Zelensky said.

There was no immediate comment from either Washington or Moscow on the proposed talks. However, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed his intention to end the conflict since returning to office more than a year ago.

Continued fighting on the ground

Despite renewed diplomatic efforts, Russia has continued its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, triggering fresh large-scale power outages during a period of extremely cold weather, Ukrainian officials said.

The escalation underscores the gap between diplomatic initiatives and the realities on the battlefield, where neither side has shown signs of easing military pressure.

Stalled peace efforts

In remarks released on Saturday, Zelensky briefed journalists on the outcome of the second round of US-mediated peace talks, which concluded on Friday in Abu Dhabi without any reported breakthrough.

He said that “the difficult issues remained difficult,” referring in particular to pressure on Ukraine to make territorial concessions as part of a potential settlement.

According to Zelensky, the talks marked the first time the parties discussed the possibility of a trilateral meeting involving national leaders rather than negotiators alone. However, he cautioned that such a summit would require extensive preparation.

Uncertain path forward

With no official response yet from Russia and limited public detail from the United States, the prospects for a near-term resolution remain unclear. Analysts note that while Washington’s proposed timeline reflects renewed urgency, the continuation of heavy fighting suggests that significant obstacles remain to ending the war.
