Borama, (Horn post) The city of Borama on Tuesday witnessed a large-scale public rally in strong support of Somaliland’s recognition, as thousands of residents poured into the streets and main public squares to voice their backing of the national cause.
A huge crowd gathered across Borama, waving flags and chanting slogans in support of Somaliland, while the Tawhid flag was prominently displayed during the demonstrations.
The rally reflected widespread public enthusiasm and political engagement following recent developments related to Somaliland’s international standing.
At the same time, similar celebratory gatherings were reported across several districts of the Awdal region, including Baki, where local communities organized public events to express solidarity with Borama and reaffirm their support for Somaliland’s recognition.
Traditional elders and religious leaders from across Awdal openly endorsed the recognition, describing it as a historic milestone achieved through sustained diplomatic and political efforts. They commended the President of Somaliland for what they termed “consistent leadership and dedication” in advancing Somaliland’s quest for international legitimacy.
However, speakers at the rallies also struck a cautionary tone. Youth groups were urged to remain vigilant and disciplined, and warned against being drawn into provocations that could undermine national security or derail Somaliland’s broader political objectives. Leaders emphasized that protecting peace and stability remains central to safeguarding the country’s achievements.
In a separate address delivered today, the Paramount Chief of the Samaron clans Ugas Abdirashid Ugas Dodi issued a strong warning against any future protests that could spiral into violence or result in loss of life.
He stressed that while public expression is legitimate, it must not come at the expense of security and social cohesion.
The chief Ugas called on communities to resolve differences through dialogue and unity, underscoring that maintaining stability is essential at a critical moment for Somaliland’s national cause.
The rallies in Borama and across Awdal highlight both strong public support for Somaliland’s recognition and a parallel message from traditional authorities calling for restraint, unity, and the preservation of peace as the country navigates a sensitive political period.
Rally in Borama Rooted in Community Resolution by Awdal’s Reer Nuur:
According to organizers, the demonstration was initiated by members of the Reer Nuur community in the Awdal region, following a consultative meeting in which participants unanimously resolved that the sovereignty of the Republic of Somaliland is non-negotiable. The meeting firmly rejected any activities by individuals or groups perceived to be working on behalf of Somalia and accused of undermining peace, stability, and development in Somaliland’s western regions.
Immediately after the conclusion of the meeting, participants marched through Borama’s main markets and streets, waving Somaliland flags and chanting slogans in support of the republic. The procession quickly drew widespread public support, with residents of Borama from across the community joining the march in a show of unity and solidarity.
Community elders stated that the rally was intended to send a clear message reaffirming loyalty to Somaliland’s statehood, while underscoring the collective commitment of Awdal residents to safeguarding peace, coexistence, and progress in the region. The peaceful nature of the march, they added, reflected the public’s determination to defend Somaliland’s national cause through unity rather than confrontation.
