Tog Wajaale – (Hornpost) President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), on Wednesday officially laid the foundation stone for the Wajaale Farmland Development Project, a large-scale agricultural initiative being implemented by the international development organization Pharo Foundation, under its investment arm Pharo Ventures.

The government described the project as one of the largest agricultural interventions seen in Tog Wajaale district in more than six decades. According to officials, the initiative aims to modernize farming activities, expand irrigation systems and improve food production capacity in the region.

Speaking at the launching event, President Abdillahi thanked all parties involved in making the project possible, particularly Pharo Foundation, noting the organization’s continued investment in Somaliland in sectors such as education, water, health, and agriculture. The President said the project is expected to play a key role in food security, job creation, and environmental conservation.

According to project details released during the ceremony, the Wajaale Farmland Development initiative will focus on:

Introducing modern farming technology and improved cultivation methods.

Constructing sustainable irrigation systems to support year–round production.

Producing locally available livestock fodder.

Combating soil degradation and environmental damage in the Wajaale area.

Local administrators and community leaders at the event described the project as a long-awaited development that will benefit thousands of households in Wajaale and surrounding villages.

Executives from Pharo Foundation, including CEO Tom Mason and the organization’s Somaliland representative, Mohamed Muse Elmi, reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting Somaliland’s agricultural growth, water management, fodder production, and rural employment opportunities. They emphasized that the project is designed to create sustainable livelihoods based on technology, training, and environmental protection.

Government ministers, traditional leaders, and regional officials also addressed the gathering and urged residents to take advantage of the opportunities the project will generate, including increased productivity, job creation, and improved community services.

The Wajaale Farmland Development Project becomes one of the most significant agricultural investments launched in the region in recent years and is widely expected to boost local food production and rural incomes.
