Hargeisa (Hornpost) Today, the three national parties of the Republic of Somaliland held a meeting in Hargeisa, continuing discussions regarding the registration of voters for the local and parliamentary elections scheduled for 2026.
The three parties—Kulmiye, Waddani, and Kaah—had previously formed technical committees to discuss this matter. The meeting was chaired by the leaders of these parties: Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, Chairman of Kulmiye; Mahmoud Hashi Abdi, Chairman of Kaah; and Abdirashid Mohamed Yusuf, Deputy Chairman of Waddani.
Although no official statement was issued after the meeting, reports indicate that the three parties disagreed on certain issues. Each party maintained its own position. The main points of disagreement revolved around proposals from the Somaliland Electoral Commission regarding voter registration: whether to conduct a new registration, a limited registration at around 200 locations, or a broader registration at up to 900 locations across the country.
Sources also suggest that the ruling Waddani party withdrew from a private agreement previously reached with Kulmiye, although neither party has publicly confirmed this.
The leadership of the Somaliland parties agreed to continue discussions, with a follow-up meeting scheduled for next week.
