Borama, (Horn post) Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland HE Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi met today with representatives from the regional media in Awdal during his ongoing official visit to Borama. The forum, held at the Borama Presidential Residence, focused on the media’s role in promoting security, development, and the international recognition of Somaliland.
Opening the session, Awdal Governor Abdirashid Hassan Matan thanked local journalists for their cooperation with the regional administration and pledged continued support for constructive media engagement.
Deputy Minister of Resettlement and Humanitarian Affairs, Abdirahman Shide Bille, and the National Auditor, Hassan Muse Khalif, also addressed the meeting, praising the media’s contributions to transparency and public awareness.
Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland Mr. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi delivered a keynote emphasizing the importance of responsible journalism. He said:
“First, I thank you for responding to my call, and I acknowledge that you are a vital pillar for both our nation and society. We face new challenges in our region, and I urge you to work together responsibly and with integrity. Media carries a double responsibility — it can serve as a force for good or harm. Know that one will be held accountable for wrongdoing. The government welcomes constructive criticism but will not support reporting that spreads division, falsehoods, or manipulation. My door is always open; I ask only that you avoid actions that could fracture our society.”
Vice President Mohamed Ali concluded by calling on journalists to collaborate with authorities to safeguard peace, unity, and development in Awdal and throughout Somaliland, stressing that every citizen has a role to play in consolidating the country’s recently achieved recognition.
Regional media representatives present at the meeting affirmed their commitment to working with the government to promote stability, social cohesion, and progress in the region.
