HARGEISA (Horn post) Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro) on Thursday held a high-level meeting with former presidents and vice presidents, parliamentary leaders, heads of the three national parties, senior military commanders and cabinet officials, following Israel’s formal recognition of Somaliland.
According to an official statement, the president briefed participants on the diplomatic stages and engagements that led to Israel’s decision on December 26, 2025, describing the recognition as the outcome of Somaliland’s long-standing political struggle and sustained diplomacy.
President Irro stressed that the development marks a historic national achievement that requires unity, collective responsibility and broad consultation to consolidate the gains and translate them into wider international recognition.
Former leaders, parliamentary speakers and party chairpersons welcomed the recognition and congratulated the president and his government, calling for national cohesion and public awareness to safeguard and build upon what they described as a landmark moment for Somaliland.
The meeting concluded with a unified consensus to intensify diplomatic efforts toward achieving full and broad international recognition of the Republic of Somaliland.
