Borama, Somaliland (Hornpost) The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mohamed Ali Aw-Abdi, has appealed for calm in Awdal Region following deadly protests that erupted after authorities halted the scheduled launch of the Xeer Ciise book.
In a written statement, the Vice President extended condolences to the families of those killed during the overnight demonstrations in Borama, praying for mercy upon the deceased and a swift recovery for the injured.
Aw-Abdi urged residents to “remain calm and exercise restraint,” noting that the government had already suspended the controversial book event that sparked the unrest.
He stressed that full accountability awaits both security officers who misused firearms and civilians who armed themselves during the clashes, underscoring that the rule of law will be upheld.
“My fellow citizens, I urge you to safeguard peace and protect our city from any further harm,” the Vice President said, calling on the public to prioritize stability as investigations proceed.
