Somalia and Turkish Agriculture Ministers Meet in Ankara to Discuss Expanded Cooperation

Istanbul (Hornpost) Somalia’s Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, MP Mohamed Abdi Hayir (Mareye), and Türkiye’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, held bilateral talks in Istanbul as part of a working visit by the Somali delegation to Türkiye.

The meeting focused on advancing agricultural cooperation between the two nations, with discussions covering technical support for Somali farmers, improved irrigation systems, access to modern farming equipment, and the provision of high-quality seeds. Both ministers reaffirmed the importance of strengthening institutional ties and expanding investment in Somalia’s agricultural sector.

During their visit, the two ministers also jointly participated in the Zero Waste Summit held in Istanbul — a global platform dedicated to promoting sustainable environmental management, waste reduction strategies, and climate-resilient development. The summit provided an opportunity for Somalia to explore new partnerships in environmental protection, sustainable agriculture, and green growth initiatives.

Officials from both sides emphasized the enduring friendship between Somalia and Türkiye and expressed readiness to pursue joint programs that support food security, environmental sustainability, and rural development in Somalia.
