Cairo (Hornpost.com) Saleeban Hassan Waberi from the Republic of Djibouti has been elected as a member of the FIFA Council and his term of office will be from 2025 to 2029. Sulaiman Hassan Waberi from Djibouti became one of the members of the executive committee of the FIFA World Football Federation, after an election held in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. The continent of Africa, of which he became one of its members, was elected by six members consisting of five men and one woman. About 10 countries were competing to be members of the FIFA executive committee in Africa, and five countries emerged, namely Djibouti, Morocco, Egypt, Mauritania, Niger and a woman who became the sixth member. This official has previously served as the Chairman of the Football Association of Djibouti as well as the African Football Federation (CAF), and finally he was able to reach the top of the world football associations, FIFA, as one of became the members of the executive committee of that association. ‘I have been in football since my youth until today, I have been through all levels, I have held every position, whether it is an administration, the chairman of football, the chairmen of the teams, the executive committee of CECAFA, in the last four years I was the vice president of the African continent, and now eight years later CECAFA nominated me for the FIFA high committee’ said Solomon. Sulaiman is currently the CAF vice-chairman who was elected on March 12, 2021 and has held the position until now, before moving to FIFA. What is the job of these new FIFA members? The new members of Africa received by FIFA will represent them in the world football federation, where they will defend the interests of the African continent. ‘The task we were elected to do is to represent the continent of Africa and talk about the interests of the continent and cut off any projects and defend them’ said Sulaiman. Sulaiman said that it is the first time that a member of the executive committee has reached the level of a member, and in Africa, his current position is the highest among East African countries. He said that Djibouti is an honor for the level he is in today in football and he represents the executive members of FIFA. The term of representation of new members shall be the next four years.
