Statement from the National Conference of Farmers of the Republic of Somaliland

Hargeisa (Hornpost.com) The Conference of Farmers of the Republic of Somaliland held on February 26 – 27 2025, attended by the President of the Republic of Somaliland, heads of ministries, ministers, international and local organizations, various experts, officials of the country’s universities, businessmen and farmers in different regions of Somaliland.

The Somaliland Farmers’ Conference was of great importance to the land farming community and everyone involved in agricultural production, and it was analyzed the things that can be increased in Somaliland’s agricultural production, and it was organized by the Somaliland Ministry of Agriculture

The Somaliland Farmers’ Conference which lasted for two days in Hargeisa was attended by all the different sections of the society, and the focus was on how to find a market for the farmers of the country to encourage them production.

“The conference calls for the implementation of the directive of President of the Republic of Somaliland Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), which was to strengthen the country’s production, in accordance with the national plans of NDP3, twinning the government’s political program ‘Unity and Action’ and making national plans towards adaptation to climate change in the field of agricultural production.

Strengthening cooperation between farmers and all production stakeholders
The conference proposes to conduct studies on the land suitable for cultivation.
The conference proposes to prepare an investment policy for farmers, which in the future will lead to the creation of an agricultural development bank.
Sustainability and management of soil and water resources should be strengthened.
Establishing policy and rescue plans, to fight disease and agricultural pests
Encouraging investment opportunities in agriculture
To raise awareness among farmers about agricultural production
To strengthen the network of agricultural products and markets, and support any obstacles to the agricultural market.”

The President of the Republic of Somaliland Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Irro) has declared that his government will open agricultural schools and called on the big businessmen of Somaliland to invest in agriculture, to increase domestic production

“The government is setting up a plan for the development of agriculture and strengthening their production. The government plans to establish high schools to study agricultural science and to provide farmers with training to improve the knowledge of modern farming, fight against pests, adapt to climate change and to develop economic infrastructure such as roads to produce in the markets can take them inside, there are great opportunities for investment in Somaliland’s agriculture we encourage entrepreneurs to invest in agriculture and agricultural processing industries, also welcome foreign investment in agriculture”

The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Somaliland Mohamud Igge Yusuf said that this meeting is important for Somaliland farmers to improve agricultural production.
